Job Title: Youth Ministry Summer Intern
Reports to: Pastor and Elder
Status: Summer Intern
Salary (no benefits): Compensation based on commitment time and
experience, whether full or part-time.
Start Date: Late May through Early August (10-11 weeks), 2026
Purpose:
To direct/assist with youth/children’s ministry, planning events
(camps, retreats, treks, VBS, missions trips), leading Bible studies,
building relationships with attendees, and supporting overall church
programs, offering hands-on ministry training in a nurturing
environment with supervision from staff. Key responsibilities include
relational, ministry, event coordination, teaching, and discipleship with
tasks varying by each group and the church’s needs.
Position description:
Leadership
• To devote time to prayer and the study of the scriptures.
• To lead and direct the ministry to children/youth
• To lead in developing community outreach and discipleship to youth
• To work with the Pastor and other Student Ministry volunteers to
provide care and leadership for all middle and high school students,
that engages, equips, and sends them out to share their faith with
others.
• Partner with Student Ministry volunteers to create a ministry
environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all students,
understanding the specific needs and nuances of the student culture
both inside and outside of Grace Community Church.
Programming
• Partner with Student Ministry volunteers to plan and execute all
Student Ministry major events (such as retreats, grade level events,
and summer service opportunities), ensuring excellence in promotion,
production, execution, and attendance
• Partner with Student Ministry volunteers to plan and execute all
Student Ministry small and large group regular programming,
ensuring it is excellent in promotion, production, execution, and
attendance
• Plan, prepare, and teach lessons, Bible studies, devotionals, etc. as
needed with age appropriate language without condescension.
• Serve, be engaged with, and support overall church programming
including Sunday Morning worship and other church events as
needed.
Relationships
• Developing relationships with students or contact work is the primary
focus of this position. A majority of time will be spent meeting
students where they are throughout the summer and building
relationships with them.
• Build consistent relationships with the students, staff, volunteers and
parents associated with the Student Ministry.
• Participate with the student ministry team in the ongoing development
and implementation of a strategy to equip and empower parents to be
effective in the role of primary spiritual nurturers to their children
• Partner with Children’s Ministry and recruit high school Youth as
helpers for the VBS program.
Operations & Development
• Attend monthly Elder meetings
• Meet weekly or as needed with the Pastor to check in on spiritual and
emotional health, and go over the progress of personal and ministry
goals
• Partner with the Pastor and Elders to request, structure, and manage
the spending of a yearly budget
• Partner with all volunteers to contribute to the greater goals and
systems of the ministry, even when the tasks do not specifically align
with the rest of this job description
• Pursue ongoing learning and development in specific ministry focus
areas to include but not limited to: youth ministry, volunteer
leadership, theological study, missions and service, and worship.
Qualifications:
Education
• Completed first (Freshman) year of college required.
Experience and Skills
• The Intern must have a strong, personal, growing faith in Jesus Christ
and have a desire to serve him through ministry to children/youth.
• Experience participating in ministry or ministry related activities
preferred
• Must have strong relational skills
• Must be a self-motivator with the ability to work effectively on a team
• Must have a strong desire to work with students
• Must have a love for all types of teenage students and their families
• Must be teachable and ready to learn how to recruit and equip
volunteers, develop mentoring relationships with students, and plan
and execute elite ministry programming
• Bilingual Fluency in English and Spanish preferred
• Must have the ability to effectively manage several things at once
